Lac Qui Parle Wildlife Area 

Walt has worked for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for over 30 years and presently serves as the Wildlife Area Manager on the Lac qui Parle Wildlife Management Area in West-central Minnesota.  He has served in this position since 2016.  Prior to working at Lac qui Parle, Walt was the Roving Crew Supervisor for 34 counties in Southwest Minnesota.  He worked for 20 years in Northeast Minnesota as an Assistant Area Wildlife Manager working in northern forests habitats and wild rice lakes.  Walt‘s primary passion is wildland fire management and he is presently nationally qualified as a Line Safety Officer, Prescribed Fire Manager and Task Force Leader.  He recently worked on his 300th prescribed burn in his career that has included nearly 58,000 acres.
