Hello, my name is Phillip Silva. I am a tribal member of Santa Clara Pueblo and work for the forestry department under the Reserved Treaty Rights Lands Program, RTRL. This program was brought to the Pueblo in the sense that it could be used as a tool to collaborate more jointly and partner up with next door boundary neighbors. The boundaries surrounding the Pueblo need to be protected from oncoming wildfire, insects disease, and any other catastrophic events. For these precautions we tend to try and incorporate treatments and projects that reach these efforts.
Mr. Silva will present on Santa Clara’s efforts to co-manage federal lands adjacent to the pueblo boundary. Utilizing the Tribal Forest Protection Act, and leveraging funding from BIA’s Reserved Treaty Rights Lands (RTRL) Program, Santa Clara Forestry has proposed stewardship for nearly 27,000 acres of US Forest Service and National Park Service Lands. Phil will provide an update on these efforts and planned activities for the coming year.
