Former NPS Director Jonathan Jarvis and Dr. Gary Machlis Are Closing Plenary Speakers for 2018 Conference
We are proud to announce that the co-authors of
The Future of Conservation: A Chart for Rough Water, former NPS Director Jarvis and Dr. Machlis, will be the Closing Plenary speakers for the 2018 Natural Areas Conference.
The Closing Plenary, on Thursday, October 12, will also be the Reynold E. Carlson Lecture for Indiana University's School of Public Health, and will be open to the university community and public. The Closing Plenary will take place at 3:30 p.m. in the majestic Alumni Hall in the Indiana Memorial Union.

In "A Chart for Rough Water," Jarvis and Machlis "reflect upon the ways in which the history of conservation—from its roots borne out of business interests to the systematic exclusion of certain groups—has brought the movement to what they see as a point of division and inaccessibility.... stumbl[ing] from each defensive action to the next.” and urge organizations to keep conservation “relevant.”
