Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility Commitment

The Natural Areas Association (NAA) is committed to actively working toward a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. NAA is an association of practitioners and scientists focused on the management of ecologically significant landscapes with the intent to protect biodiversity for current and future generations. NAA seeks to improve our work, make our programs and resources available to more people doing this important work, and make our work more meaningful and relevant. NAA wants to provide programs and resources to current and future practitioners and scientists and ensure our content is widely accessible. By bringing together people with a range of perspectives, backgrounds, abilities, and experiences – plus, encouraging a community of inclusion – we can improve our work. We believe that we are stronger when we respect, accept, and learn from our similarities and differences and work together.

Our staff: NAA values our employees and the different talents, expertise, and perspective that each brings to the table. We commit to providing a constructive, safe, and positive work atmosphere that promotes mutual respect and empowers individuals to thrive in their jobs. We provide training and development opportunities focused on diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.

Our relationships: NAA values collaborative relationships and the expertise and insight that a diverse pool of partners and organizations can provide to guide, inform, and accomplish our work. We commit to strengthening and deepening connections with existing partners and to establishing new partnerships to comprehensively advance NAA.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Committee: The DEIA committee was formed in 2019 and is comprised of board members (representing various agencies and NGO’s) and members of NAA’s practitioner community. The DEIA Committee focuses on strategies to reflect our values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. We review our programs, resources, outreach, board and staff composition to promote diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility.
