NAA Behind the Scenes: the 2018 Board Retreat and Strategic Planning

It’s important for any organization to step back from time to time and ensure they’re on the right track to deliver on their mission in the best possible way. NAA holds a Board retreat and full-day meeting each year before the start of that year’s conference, so that the Board and staff have time and space to consider what we’ve accomplished and what course corrections are called for.

In 2018, this process was especially important – because we were creating the basis for the Strategic Plan that NAA will use for the next 5 years. With the help of the Central Indiana Land Trust (CILTI) and The Nature Conservancy – Indiana, about 20 NAA Board and staff members hiked into some of the most beautiful areas of the Hills of Gold - the Laura Hare Preserve, Bob’s Woods and Glaciers End Nature Preserve - to take inspiration from natural areas while charting the organization’s future course.

It was chilly, but between the peace of these lands and the warm hospitality and lunch courtesy of the CILTI crew (doesn’t food always taste better in the middle of the woods?), we mapped out some bold initiatives for NAA. You’ll be hearing more about these efforts soon – including news about our new Science Advisory Committee, the expansion of our online Resources and Regional Workshops, and more. We’re excited about the next five years – and glad that so many of you are along for the ride!
